The unexcavated mound of ancient Colossae is in the centre right of the picture. This ancient mound was the site where, in the first century, a church was established, possibly by Epaphras who was from Colossae (Colossians 1.7; 4.12). This church was the recipient of Paul's Letter to the Colossians.
The snow-capped Mount Cadmus is the source of a tributary of the Lycus River that flows to the south of Colossae. At the foot of Mount Cadmus is the modern village of Honaz.
