Oilpress cave

This cave, that was excavated at Kh. el-Maqatir, contained an oil press and a winepress. The olives weredeposited into the cave through the opening in the ceiling. Olives were then put in circular baskets and pressed down by a beam that had stone weights attached. The upright stones possibly held a screw in position which may have been used as a winepress. The liquids would have been collected in the large vat at the right of the drawing.
